this clip from make some noise s1e8 with oscar montoya and brennan lee mulligan is the only super mario bros content i care about personally

brennan lee mulligan has the greatest superpower: the unlimited ability to make an absolutely off-the-cuff monologue and then follow it up with the ultimate turnaround.
he can share the power with others

but credit also needs to be firmly planted in the hands of oscar for hearing the prompt say “dramatic video game cutscene” and then going “got it, mario and luigi.”

lmao tumblr letting their users choose whether or not they want their likes to be public but then pulling a twitter 2.0 and showing your likes on your followers’ dashboards and specially saying who liked the posts in their new update, without the users’ consent or a way to turn it off, is actually pretty insane.

like how many times to we — the users — have to tell them we don’t want tumblr to be like any other social media platforms and that tumblr’s being different than twitter, instagram, tiktok is actually what makes us stay on this silly little site.

respectfully @staff you’re driving your users away. stop trying to “fix” things that are good and don’t need to be fixed. we want tumblr to be tumblr. we don’t want the site to be twitter or instagram 2.0

WHY IS THE DASHBOARD COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NOW?

image

like. i don’t absolutely hate it. but also it is SO different from what i’ve been used to for years. it’s like my brain is itchy in a really uncomfortable way looking at this. maybe i could get used to it? but. waugh

some further thoughts:

having this bulky sidebar follow me wherever i scroll on the dashboard is incredibly distracting. If it were out of the way and not taking up so much screen space, I might find it useful, but as it is right now it just feels distracting and bad. I don’t like it. But I’m not one to jump to outrage based on first impressions, so, idk, I’ll give it more time to marinate I guess.

also, why is the horizontal line in “+” ever-so-slightly closer to the bottom half? it almost looks like an inverted cross?? am i going crazy. do i need my eyes checked. wh.

it is downright comical to look at them side by side. they’re just copying twitter.

everyone’s saying it but yeah the new tumblr desktop layout is complete garbage lmao

yknow what i really can’t fucking stand. how every social media now feels like it’s designed for mobile first but then subsequently there is NO design for desktop and they just kinda slap a mobile interface onto a widescreen canvas and fill it with a solid color. like why is what feels like 60% of my dashboard just negative space on a 16:9 monitor. the entire thing is so fucking claustrophobic and just bunched together. use the space!!!! why are the timeline switcher tabs at the top of the screen getting cut off!!! you could fit all of them!!!

you want to help stop tumblr from murdering itself? here’s how!

  • click this link and go to the support page, then click “contact support”
  • click on the category list and click on feedback
image
  • now you need to tell staff WHY putting in an algorithm will cause the site to fucking die, and be sure to be detailed and not a dick in it. theyre not gonna listen to feedback calling them assholes
  • viola, if @staff listens, we’ll be fine

i encourage you to reblog this so we can get as many people leaving feedback as humanly possible. we need to let staff know this is an utterly terrible idea

by the way, tumblr has turned off asks on all of their staff blogs, so this is the only way to tell tumblr how you feel

here it is again because uh. seems relevant.

hey @staff what the fresh fuck is this

wow i sure wonder 🤔🤔 what the new layouts supposed to look like 🤔🤔🤔🤔 its a mystery

Don’t forget y’all that there’s a much better way for us to let Tumblr know what we think about specific changes, rather than @ ing staff or wip, and it’s sending in a support ticket and choosing feedback!

Tumblr reverted some of the asinine app decisions they made after a concerted feedback effort! So make sure to use this form! It’s what it’s for, but it’s not well advertised!

what the FUCK is this

Since WHEN have we asked for tumblr to use Twitter’s layout. What the hell. I hate this. why.

@staff No.

image

In light of this new information, I would like to reword my statement above.

@staff @changes

Good morning/evening,

As this is an experiment for which you have asked feedbacks for, here is my reaction upon seeing it above, and my more detailed feeling of it now.
I will start with the overall layout and my feeling of it, and then touch upon it’s accessibility and usability, as seen by me and my experience as a user.

The reason I am not on Twitter and have barely touched Mastodon, is because of this layout. This several columns layout with the “main” one in the middle and squeezed between two other “side” columns feel oppressing, claustrophobic and cluttered.

Due to this layout I have been leaving the Tumblr tab more often than I used to, and it makes me want to come back less and less.

As well, I do not like the create button at the bottom of the column on the left as it feels kind of thrown in there and keeps catching my eye despite me, which is very frustrating and annoying and makes me leave the site faster.

This also goes for the “tabs” feature at the very top, which I wasn’t using in the first place but feels icky to me.

This layout feels very counter-intuitive, as everything has been switched. Long term users and disabled users relying on muscle memory will have a hard time using the website now.
Now, I imagine you think “well, they’ll learn”, but this is another bad change amongst other, one that literally makes the website impossible to use. It would be the last straw.

I have caught myself several time moving my mouse to the places were things used to be, and felt frustrated when they weren’t there, which prompted me to close the website and do something else.

As stated before, the “create” button at the bottom is very jarring and makes it uncomfortable to use as I have trouble focusing on the actual posts I’d like to see.
This is one of the reason I liked Tumblr layout more than other website, for it’s clean slate look with just the post in the middle, allowing me to easily focus on these and scroll and actually stay on the website, which I’m assuming is what you want.

If you must absolutely go with this design, then I suggest dimming and moving the create button on the right, switching back the search bar and tool bar to left and right respectfully, and removing all the text next to the tool bar, leaving only the icons, maybe with the text appearing when hovering, so it would appear less cluttered and stop battling for my attention with everything else.

TDLR; This layout is overwhelming, cluttered, frustrating, counter-intuitive, and makes me leave the website more often.
